About Ellevill

What is there to know...

Ellevill wraps are comfortable and ergonomic baby carriers, for newborns to toddlers. Ellevill wrap gives you mobility and freedom, for an active life after the birth of your baby.

Ellevill wraps are designed in Norway and produced in India from high-quality cotton, optimum thickness and thread count, patterns and colors developed by our designer Benedicte Andreassen, the woman behind the Ellevill wrap - these features makes Ellevill wraps both comfortable baby carriers and a fashion accessory to look fabulous every day.

The first collection from 2008 included 100% mercerized cotton models in 6 colors. Since then, Ellevill has grown to also have merino wool, organic cotton, silk, linen and bamboo wraps in many different patterns.

Norwegian Style: Norwegian traditional knitting pattern

Zara: Inspired by Norwegian knitting pattern and traditional pattern from South America.

Jade: Zara pattern in smaller size.

Paisley: droplet-shaped vegetable motif of Indian and Persian origin, similar to half of the Yin yang symbol. The pattern is sometimes called "Persian pickles" by American traditionalists, especially quilt-makers as far back as 1888.

Air Merino: Our new hybrid wrap, woven and elastic, with the beautiful Jade pattern.

Its final features combine:

- Medium-thickness with a perfect 'breathability' for full comfort right through summer;

Middle marks (with size) are placed on the rail. Rails and tails are very carefully sewn.

The production

Why Ellevill decided to hold its production to India?

By definition, India is a democracy. Despite this, the community consists of large social and cultural differences. All products except wool are produced in India. India cannot produce wool in large amounts and this is why we chose to produce all wool in China.

The factory that produces goods for Ellevill AS is concerned dignity and justice. They have more than 30 years experience in textile production and therefore have a good knowledge to give workers the best working conditions. Here are all equal. By adhering to the strict international standards that are set in relation to the production gives workers a fair treatment in terms of pay, working hours and environmental aspects. They mean that our products are the result of fair trade.

All items manufactured from 2011 is made of mercerized cotton. This is cotton that has been treated with sodium hydroxide to extract certain properties first discovered in 1851. When treated properly, mercerized cotton is stronger, smoother and shinier than regular cotton. In addition, it takes dye easily, so manufacturers can create rich colour saturation in cotton.

Prices

A penny here and a penny there ...

We are willing to pay more for our goods if we can be of help in a positive direction. Production of textile in this manner is more expensive and makes our products more expensive. This means lower profits and higher prices. We strive nevertheless to put us at a cost that fits the market. It's important to us that we have a product we can be proud of than we should have the best possible profit.

Production

Production from raw material to finished product is carefully planned. Only natural AZO free and eco-friendly colours are used for both environmental and health reasons.

Why are knots in my wrap? "The weavers knot" is said to be the smallest possible knot that is possible to make. It is used to attach the thread ends together. It is almost impossible to get up once it is connected. This is an art in itself and absolutely necessary for the work to be beautiful.

Loose ends and broken strands? The process of weaving machine becomes smoother, but there could still be correspondingly small irregularities like the hand woven wrap has such nodules and threads. We believe that our products should be unique, and therefore we choose this form of production rather than to mass produce goods without charm.

Your safety!

  • Your baby is your responsibilty - babywearing can be very safe as long as you use common sense and follow some guidelines.
  • Before you put the sling on, check all stiching, buckles etc for signs of weakness. Particularly at stress points like where straps meet the body of the carrier. If any faults are apparent, don't use the carrier.
  • Before you try your sling with a real baby, it's a good idea to practice on a doll or teddy. When you do use your sling with your baby, and as you are learning to use it, it's a good idea to get another adult to help you, by supporting your baby as you tie the straps. When you progress to doing this yourself, put your baby in over a sofa or bed.
  • Be aware of your baby's position in the sling - check he has a good air supply, if he is asleep that his head is supported, and that he looks comfortable - a mirror is a great way to check bits you can't see.
  • Make sure he isn't too hot - your body heat will give him warmth too, so you will not need to put as many layers on him as you would do in a buggy. It's much easier, and cosier to put one coat over both of you than try to get a sling on over your coat. In winter, watch out for extremities like the legs getting cold.
  • Always tie using a double knot.
  • Don't perform dangerous / energetic tasks with your baby in a sling
  • Be aware of things your baby can reach - particularly in the kitchen, things such as knives and anything hot.
  • Look after your back - Bend at the knees, Dont' bend over at the waist. Also change positions if you wear your baby for long periods, change shoulder in your pouch, try a different carry with your wrap.

In any case, it is you that is responsible for your child’s safety! Use your head!
